Horses Are My Healing

I’m forever grateful to have 1,000-pound miracle workers in my back yard.

It’s scientifically proven that hanging out with horses has health benefits. Spending time with horses reduces stress, clears mental noise and provides a grounding, meditative rhythm.

Here are the Top 4 reasons I’m healing because of horses:

  1. Horses help our nervous systems shift out of stress mode. Calm activities with horses, such as grooming or quietly standing beside one, can help us move toward greater parasympathetic activity and calm that nervous system.
  2. Humans can physiologically sync with a horse’s heart rate. Our heart rates can slow to match a horse’s, putting us in a calmer space, helping us minimize all that worldly noise.
  3. Horses make you feel lighter. Interactions with horses can lower stress, improve mood and increase serotonin, the “feel-good chemical.”
  4. Caring for a horse combines movement, purpose and emotional connection. The experience, as a whole, gives a person something to do, something to care about and a reason to show up. Ahhhh, that meditative rhythm.

Hold Your Horses

Sharing my horses – and their health benefits – is one of my favorite things to do. It’s almost like watching magic happening right before my eyes. Horses are truly good for the soul.

Just like Ronald Regan said, “There’s nothing better for the inside of a man than the outside of a horse.”
